The Liver Cleanse Protocol: What we did
How we used essential oils and dietary supplements to detoxify our livers
The liver cleanse program, using therapeutic-grade essential oils, is a powerful way to clear the liver of built-up toxins and debris. However, within the basic framework of this program, there can be many variations; what works for one person might need some tweaking for another.
Linda and I haven't followed the same protocol; hers was a little simpler than mine. Both programs have worked well for us — but the results have been much more impressive in Linda than in me. But then, I've been sick and disabled for more than 30 years, and much of that time, I had terrible digestive disturbances. As a result, my toxic overload is much greater than Linda's, and will require more time to correct.
Here's what we've done.
Tom's Liver Cleanse regimen:
For the sake of simplicity (and because I take quite a few supplements for other needs), I chose to do the liver cleanse in two parts per day: first thing in the morning and just before bed. This is what I've done.
Liver Cleanse Protocols:
Because of the differences between people, their specific needs and how their systems respond to supplements and oils, you will need to do some experimentation to find the liver cleanse regimen that is just right for you.
The following links will take you to examples of what some people have done. So, give one a try, tinker with it, tweak it, and see how you do.
Upon awakening in the morning: First thing in the morning, I squeeze the juice of half a lemon into 8 oz of water and drink it right down. I do this to reset my pH levels from acid to alkaline. There is the option to sweeten this with a natural Grade B maple syrup, if it's too tart for me, but I like it straight.
Morning and evening routine: For simplicity's sake, I follow the same routine morning and evening. This is what I do: About 20 minutes after doing the lemon juice in water, and again before bed, I take one "00" capsule each of:
- the liver opening blend,
- the liver clearing blend, and
- DigestZen,
In addition to this, about twice a day (in the morning and at bedtime), I fill a large tumbler with a roughly 50-50 mixture of aloe vera and apple juice, and add in:
- 1 large tablespoon of the liver clearing drink,
- 1 large tablespoon of MSM powder,
- 1 large tablespoon of the Super Seed, and
- 2-3 droppers-full of the liquid mineral blend.
I also take a few digestive enzymes, morning and evening (and sometimes a few with my mid-day meal).
I suspect that this is a little bit of over-kill; but I'm still working out a balance here. I'm certainly doing better since I increased the digestive enzymes.Linda's Liver Cleanse Protocol:
First thing in the morning and before bed: Linda takes:
- One "0" capsule each of:
- the liver opening blend, and
- the liver clearing blend, as well as
- 3 tablets of the hepatic clearing supplement.
I haven't convinced her yet to try the cranberry juice in water or the lemon juice in water, but her results from this program have been amazing.
How much of the oils should you take?
If you're just doing a basic cleanse, 1-2 capsules of each oil blend a day should be quite adequate.
In his clinical work, depending on the condition, Gary Young uses 1-3 capsules per day. Some patients take one capsule in the morning and one at night. But, he's had some patients taking four capsules of helichrysum a day.
It's very important to remember this: It's not how many capsules you take per day, but how many days you take the capsules that's important.
Be sensitive to that.
In addition to this, I take 6 caplet of Primal Defense ULTRA, morning and evening. This is a truly great probiotics product, and made a lot of difference in how I felt before I ever started the liver cleanse program.
During the day, I've started drinking 8 oz of unsweetened cranberry juice in a gallon of water. That has seemed to make a really significant difference in my clearing.
We're also using the liver clearing spice blend on as many foods as we can think of: eggs, baked potato, salads — I even put it on my Taco Bell soft tacos and burritos. It was great; and the cleansing effect is powerful.
Our results?
Following this basic program for the liver cleanse, we have seen results ranging from amazing to significant. To read about the specifics, take a look at Our results from the Liver Cleanse Program.
